Listening to Music

I don't get it. I truly don't. Statistics say that we must never listen to music when we are doing homework because we wont be able to concentrate. They even say that your grades will be bad and bla bla bla. The ironic thing here is that at the same time they promote us to listen to classical music while we do our work in order to be better at it. Are we, or are we not able to do more than one thing at a time? Well, I really don’t know the answer to that question but I am still going to listen to my music while I do my homework.

Every time I listen to the type of music that I enjoy the most it relaxes me and it allows me to do my work will less stress. I don’t listen to it word by word it is mostly in the background. My mind is mostly focus on my math homework or my other class’s homework.

I have a playlist with mostly calm songs that I’ve heard many times before so I’m already used to their tone. I don’t only listen to music while I’m working but also when I’m at the gym or outside my house jogging. With time and age music has become more and more involved in my life because I listen to it in various activities that take place during the day. I listen to it while I’m showering, in the car, exercising, studying, dancing, and many other activities.

I don’t know anymore what I would do without music.

Drawing

Many, many teachers may truly hate me for my bad habits in class but, what can I say? I simply love to draw. I like to draw in bed, during classes, in airplanes, while watching movies in my house, while eating, and others I can´t remember at the moment. The truth is: I used to hate to draw………. I liked it but I didn’t know how. And I still don´t know how to draw animals, or people, or complex objects. But slowly I learned how to draw more abstract drawings and objects that don’t make complete sense but they are still fun. I get my inspiration from dreams, little things I see, and other pieces of art. It would be amazing if one day I could get payed for drawing so that I could do the things I love as a living. Unfortunately for me that is just not going to happen because I have responsibilities and a future to pursue.

The only thing that sometimes annoys me is the math that may be involved in each drawings. Its not complicated math or anything but I will still complain about it. I am a perfectionist when it comes to drawing and when I make patterns they have to be just right. Everything in its perspective place and the right size so that it looks neat and organized in the end. If something is meant to be in the center trust me, it will be in the center.

(I did not make this but it is my favorite style of drawing)

HERE IS A PICTURE THAT I DID MAKE:

E entertaintment Television

E Entertainment Television and MTV are my two favorite channels in TV. However E has a diversity of things to watch. They offer from documentaries to reality shows. Even though it all has to be related to Hollywood one way or another, you still learn a lot by watching some programs like Dr. 90210. It is a reality TV show that involves a lot of woman and men of several ages that have to get so and so operations so they go to doctors in Beverly Hills. They interview the patients as well as the doctors and you go through the entire procedure with the patients.

WARNING: if you do not like blood or cuts DON’T WATCH THIS SHOW.

Even though some selected episodes may be relatively gross you learn a lot about the human body and their functions. I learned about the culture in certain areas of the United States and the standards that most women are dying to meet. There are other reality shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians, The Perfect Catch, Temptation Island, and Kendra to name a few.

The Red Carpet season is also a big deal in the film industry and E always invests a lot of money on transmitting these famous events directly home so we can watch them. The season is during February and March . Different types of celebrities are invited to a diversity of awards for their performances. The Oscars is one of the biggest events and it involves mainly best movies, directors, and actors. The SAG awards are for TV show, and the Grammy’s is for the music industry.

This channel offers news as well and comedy based on it. Most of the news you will see won’t be based on the most recent natural disaster or the political situation in some country unless celebrities are involved. The soup is a show were celebrities are caught in embarrassed situations and the host of the show makes their life miserable and jokes about them in a very sarcastic way. In comedy and news you also have the Chelsea Lately Show. Chelsea, the hostess, makes fun of the current situations in Hollywood including live interviews with celebs.

Christmas

I cannot believe that Christmas is over and we are barely in march. Its not the fact that I will have to wait more than half a year until its Christmas again……. But I haven’t had a nice, cold, and cozy Christmas since last, last year. My mental image of a perfect Christmas is most likely very different than the perfect Christmas of many Brazilians. I can´t spend Christmas nor new years in the beach getting the perfect tan. Eating fish and ice creams every day instead of indulging on cookies, brownies, and turkey is not something I am used to.

Every Christmas I normally go to Northern Mexico and for new years I go to several places in the US like Las Vegas and Denver for example. I like to see my family members and spend quality time with them doing copious amounts of activities and cooking together. My grandmother as well as my mom, makes the BEST Christmas treats and cuisine. We have a lot of cookies, brownies, cakes, turkey, salads, gravy, and pies. When the weather is cold it makes it much more easier to enjoy these amazing stuff because you don’t end up all sweaty and full yet with your bikini on.

Cooking

Although cooking is more of a hobby to me than it is an actual possibility for future employments, I enjoy practicing a lot in my free time. I am Mexican and the rules are very basic in my home town: if you don´t cook you don’t get married until you do. It’s very weird to think that nowadays those old school rules still apply. But in my case they do so I had to grow up learning how to cook in one way or another. I mainly know how to cook Mexican food but that is not my preference. I enjoy cooking Italian cuisine and all kinds of pastries.

Considering the fact that I love pastries Christmas is my favorite time of the year. They make all sorts of foods and sweets that are decorated in the cutest ways! Making pastries out of ginger and cinnamon is the best in my opinion because it gives it the perfect Christmas tough especially when you add frosting.

Here is a recipe I found of one of my favorite desserts!

Apple-Cranberry Crisp

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup old-fashioned oats

2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces

5 large Jonathan apples, peeled, sliced

4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, sliced

2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

3/4 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup butter, cut into pieces

Vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish.

2. Mix first 3 ingredients in bowl. Add 1/2 cup butter and combine using pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

3. Mix apples, cranberries, sugar, flour, cinnamon and vanilla in large bowl. Transfer to prepared baking dish. Dot with 1/4 cup butter. Crumble topping evenly over fruit.

4. Bake until apples are tender, about 1 1/4 hours. Cool slightly.

5. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream, as desired.

Makes 12 servings.
